my best girlfriend is pregnant with her first child (it's a girl!!), and yesterday was her baby shower.
this is what i made for her nursery.
i can't wait to have little penny over for lots and lots of art dates when she gets big enough to hold a paintbrush:). (oh yes. baby's name is penelope layne. could it get any cuter?!?).

wild and free
wild and free! acrylic and ephemera on canvas, 8 x 10 :). |
i'm starting to notice that i look to painting after a long or stressful day (well, after any kind of day, really!) as a way to relax and unwind. there's something so comforting about filling a blank canvas with the colors and images of my mind.
some of the most magical moments happen late at night, after i've moved my supplies into the living room to be near the hubby...with a netflix movie playing in the background. i lose myself to the creative process. :)
what's your favorite thing to do for yourself after a long day's work? do tell.

finish line
happy thursday to you, friends!
this week i've been resting. drinking tons of water. taking vitamins - anything, really, to try and kick this little bug that found me! not so much fun. i think i've mentioned before that my mind doesn't have an easy time being quiet?...makes it difficult when my body is telling me i need to slow it down for awhile.
last weekend, my little hometown came alive as we all joined in the festivities to raise money for our grange hall that is in desperate need of repair. there was a race saturday morning (hubby was first to cross the finish line- what a stud;)) and a dance that evening. these town dances are notorious for amazing live music (played by my uncle's band!), crowded dance floors, bonfires, and wonderful memories. there's something about dancing the night away that seems to make all the problems of the world disappear for awhile. :)
what have you been up to lately? here comes another weekend. hooray!

today, i'm feeling....
today, i'm feeling:
a bit fragile. (trying to be gentle w/ myself).
confident that God is in control. (even if i'm uncertain of his plan for me in this moment)...
excited for the weekend (we get to go "home"!
hello town grange hall dance, mama's cooking, and lots of nesting.)
how are you feeling today?

in my heart
long ago, a very dear soul sent me an amazing package in the mail, filled to the brim with vintage papers, photos, and travel mementos that once belonged to her family.
it was one of the most amazing packages i've ever opened! i could just feel the history and love brimming from each saved memory.
i knew i wanted to do something special with these items, but unsure of exactly what - so i tucked them away for safe keeping until the right moment. i recently discovered these treasures again.
beneath the drips and drops of paint are many lovely memories of days gone by-mostly of travels to europe.
it really gives this piece a whole new meaning, like it has already lived in another lifetime.
(oh, and the flowers in her hair? from a vintage american greeting card - written to 'mom' on mother's day! love.)
happy tuesday, friends!

studio tour
happy drizzly monday, friends!
i'd like to say that i can't believe it is pouring down rain in June...but then again, it is oregon, afterall.
today, i want to show you around my new studio space!
the natural light in here is amazing. three big windows = heaven. lots of birdies land in our yard everyday and i'm loving the view!
this is where all of the print-making magic happens:)
so there you have it!
the vibes in this room are incredible. i can't really explain it, other than to say that it feels so positive and uplifting.
you'll find me here at the art table as many hours as i can fit in during any given day.
hope you are having a beautiful day.
